Ah! Rest!

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Finally an honest-to-goodness down day!  We’ve done all the rest of the laundry, putting it on drying racks, one in the kitchen with a fan blowing on it, and the other out on the balcony in the sun. We’re catching up on all the odds and ends that accumulate when you’re traveling, and getting rid of old maps and paperwork.

Our well-used map of Poland!

Our two marathon walking tours!
We need to get everything repacked and ready for the train ride to Prague tomorrow night.  There we will take a tram to our hostel after our overnight trip.

We will also need to clean the house completely, including sweeping up the endless cat hair, and washing the linens.  Since there isn’t a dryer, it will be difficult to get the same linens back on the beds.

After our healthy breakfast of HBE, tomatoes, cucumbers and fresh bread with butter and jam, and an equally yummy lunch of open- faced sandwiches, we need to figure out something for dinner.  There’s really nothing in the fridge, so Marilyn finds the on-line menu for the restaurant up the street.  She orders a chicken breast with pesto and cheese, gnocchi and a salad. I get chicken shwarma with mixed vegetables and “pig iron”!  Who could resist pig iron?  Turns out I get grated carrots, grated cabbage and beet root!  The mixed vegetables are onion, red pepper, broccoli and corn and the flavor is just like in Turkey.  And there is tiramisu for dessert!

Pig iron across the bottom.

This was also our landmark to find our turn for home!

It looks like they are planning to deliver dinner and that’s not what we planned, so Marilyn uses my phone (yay for the phone plan, once again!) and talks to a young man with very good English.  Our dinners will be ready in forty minutes.

In the northern part of the country there are five of these!

It must be time for bed!!

We decide to buy tickets for the tram tomorrow, wash the car, fill it with gas and stop at the Lidl for tomorrow’s breakfast.  In the middle of that we stop to pick up dinner and when we’re done with our errands we come home to feast and plan.  Interestingly enough, the car wash says "Car Wash" on the side;  must be an American import.  It's at a BP station and the young man inside comes out to help us figure out how to make it go.

We can hear our cat talking to us from the balcony when we get home!  He’s figured out how to out there from my bedroom window!  He went through the screen, so I guess I won’t be able to leave it open any more!  Luckily it is easily mended. Earlier he scared me to death by disappearing!  Turns out he can open the sliding door on the hallway wardrobe.  He then crawls inside and sleeps in the darkest, furthest corner!  It’s a lot like being home!

It’s showers and early to bed, so we can get everything done tomorrow.  We have to run into Old Town one more time, then meet Monika and her sister for dinner before the taxi comes and takes us to the train station for our overnight jaunt into the Czech Republic.

  1. Wow! As your adventure is coming to a close, so is my summer. Start back to school on Monday. I'll have to still figure a way to get in my afternoon naps.
